What makes a good temporary home after a fire or flood

When a home is damaged by fire, flood or an escape of water, the policyholder is often out for months while it is dried, stripped and rebuilt. The alternative accommodation has to work as a real home for that whole time, and it usually has to be found in a day or two.

What matters to the family

  • Close to school and work. A good house in the wrong town means two hours in the car every day.
  • Like for like on bedrooms, so children are not sharing for six months when they did not before.
  • A proper kitchen and a washing machine from the first night.
  • A clear answer on pets, with any fee stated up front.
  • Ground-floor or step-free access where someone needs it.

What matters to the agency

  • A fast answer. A quick quote, or a clear statement that nothing suitable is available and what the nearest alternative is.
  • Everything on the quote: nightly rate with commission, VAT status, cancellation terms, bed configuration and parking.
  • Certificates on request: gas safety, electrical condition and public liability.
  • Flexibility on dates, because repair programmes move.
  • One point of contact for the whole stay.

Short, medium and long term

Some placements are a week while a claim is assessed. Others run past a year. A serviced house that can be extended month by month covers both, and saves moving a family twice.

We supply insurance relocation agencies and loss adjusters across the UK, with homes of every size, from one-bedroom apartments to large houses for a whole family. Send us the postcode, the dates and the party, and we will come straight back to you.
